Middlesex County Volunteers Fifes and Drums have
now made the fife scores to all of their Christmas music available electronically
on a piece-by-piece basis for a low price ($5). Please feel free to
check it out - you can get a score to The Holly and the Ivy for free
- and make some lovely holiday music with your friends. The scores are
divided by fife score or flute score if you have a flute choir. The
CD also makes an excellent gift. http://www.mcvfifesanddrums.org/music-scores.html

Sunday Concert - July 22,2007
The Plymouth Fife and Drum corps is playing a concert at noon on
Sunday July 22 at the Museum. The Company of Fifers and Drummers would
like to invite everyone to come and see the show before they leave
town after the DRAM weekend. The Executive Board will be holding a
short meeting at 1pm.
The Plymouth Fife and Drum Corps is a junior corps consisting of young
men and women ranging in age from 12 to 18. The corps has a long history
in the Plymouth, Michigan area where it was founded in November 1971,
the first fife and drum corps in the Midwest.
The uniform of the original Plymouth Fife and Drum Corps was a replica
of uniforms worn by sailors in the War of 1812. The current uniform
is a replica of George Washington’s personal lifeguard of the
era 1776-1783. It is made of wool and weighs 10 pounds. The music
played by the corps spans the 17th to 20th centuries with an emphasis
on traditional fife and drum melodies from the Revolutionary War.
Unique to the corps are medleys containing three and four part harmonies
and traditional tunes presented in contemporary settings.
General Company Newsflash
It has been reported that there is a mistake in Volume IV on page 27
of the new Company Music Book. The arrangement of the piece was credited
to Colonial Musketeers Music Master Kate Bolcar when in fact it was
arranged by the late Mike Cupalo. She wanted to make sure that this
was corrected for the record. (7-4-2007)
Donald G. Young (1927 - 2007)
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of another drum corps
friend. Donald G. Young, 80, of Deep River, passed away June 14, 2007.
He was born April 30, 1927, in New York City. He is the son of the late
Malcolm and Gladys (Clark) Young.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Barbara (Kelsey) Young,
and children: Margaret "Maggie" Young of Deep River, Connie
Steinel of Maryland and Clark Young, married to the former Dawne (Jacobson)
of Clinton. Donald is also survived by grandchildren: Christina and
Phoebe Young.
The Swan Funeral Home of Deep River will be handling the private service.
Don was a tireless worker at the museum building where he served as
one of the building managers in the 1980's when the building was being
refurbished and rebuilt. Although Don was not a musician, his son Clark
plays the snare drum and Maggie is a bass drummer. His quiet presence
will be missed. Barbara and family have requested that donations can
be made to The Company of Fifers and Drummers or to the Deep River Ambulance
Association. (Posted 6-24-07)
Loran St. Denis passed away on June 2, 2007. He was

Emeritus of the Stony Creek Fife & Drum Corps. His wake is Sunday,
June 10, 2007 at O'Brien Funeral Home in Forestville, CT from 1-3 and

Church in Forestville as well.

New Format & Time for The Company
Business Meetings
(February 15, 2006)
To the Trustees, Administrative Committee, Executive
Committee, and the general membership of The Company:
Inasmuch as:
- the General Meetings of The Company are very much a
rehash of the Executive Committee meetings
- more time is needed for subsequent jam sessions
It has been decreed -- by executive fiat -- that we will,
in essence, combine the Executive Committee and General
Meetings.
The Meetings will commence at 1100, in the upstairs hall
of the Museum, with the necessary formalities, and
hopefully be ended by 1300. Whenever votes need to be
taken, there will be clear delineation between those of
the Executive Committee and the General Membership.
When all business has been completed, the meetings will be
formally closed.
In this way, time will be saved, the general membership
will be better served, and there will be more time to
enjoy the jollification.
Go to the Company Calendar for more information.
Music Archives
(September 21, 2005)
Marty Sampson of the California Consolidated Drum Band, spent the
entire week after the Deep River Muster working dawn to dusk in the
Archives to prepare an index of all the music in The Company Music
Library, something long desired. Patsy Cooperman Ellis lent her support
and expertise in setting up the database and establishing the desired
data fields. Our trusty Membership Chair Bob Castillo configured the
data entry computer with the necessary software to enable the process.
The listing
is now available here for all who are interested in researching
the music on file in The Company Archives. A special thank you to
Marty as well as to Patsy and Bob.
