| The Fort Ticonderoga Corps is one of the oldest
in the country. It was established in 1926 and performed at Fort
Ticonderoga until World War II. In 1973 the Corps was reactivated
and has been playing at the Fort each July and August ever since.
The Corps has performed throughout the country at various high-profile
events including the 1939 World's Fair in New York City, the opening
and closing ceremonies at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics,
and at the 1981 commissioning ceremony of the first Aegis guided
missile cruiser U.S.S. Ticonderoga (CG-47) when First Lady Nancy
Reagan christened the vessel. More recently, the Corps, led by Drum
Major Michael Edson, has perfomed at the 10th Anniversary Rededication
of the Ronald Reagan Library, Disneyland, Boston's Evacuation/St.
Patrick's Day Parade, and the Annual Convention of the Congressional
Medal of Honor recipients.
The Fife & Drum Corps consists of local high school students who
must first practice with the senior corps through the winter, and
then pass an audition to earn their spot in this group of musician-reenactors.
The young men and women of Fort Ticonderoga's Fife & Drum Corps
preserve both the sights and sounds of the 18th-century military
for those visiting Fort Ticonderoga.
